Behind the scenes at Kalidron.Photography, every wedding day is a story waiting to unfold, and capturing those moments is as much about the photographers as it is about the couple. On this particular day, my second photographer, Evie, and I were in perfect sync as we documented a beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony, blending two cultures in a serene countryside setting.
The day began with our usual preparation, double-checking camera gear, lenses, and backup batteries. I grabbed my trusty Canon with a telephoto lens, knowing I'd need the reach for capturing those intimate moments during the vows. Evie, with her signature easy-going smile, opted for a wide-angle lens—perfect for sweeping shots of the venue and candid guest reactions.
The wedding was a mix of traditional and modern styles, with vibrant colors, delicate floral arrangements, and intricate decorations. Under a beautiful mandap adorned with flowing white drapery and soft pink and red florals, the bride and groom exchanged vows while family and friends sat in neatly arranged rows. From the outset, the ceremony was brimming with heartfelt moments, and I positioned myself at the front to capture the bride’s tearful smile as she glanced at her soon-to-be husband.
Evie, meanwhile, was doing what she does best—blending into the background, capturing candid shots of the guests. She has this incredible ability to make herself invisible, catching moments people don’t even realize they’re living. At one point, she crouched between the chairs to photograph the exchange of rings from a different angle, and the joy on her face when she nailed the shot was unmistakable.
Midway through the ceremony, a soft breeze picked up, gently swaying the white curtains of the mandap. It was a photographer’s dream—natural movement, soft lighting, and an air of romance all blending together seamlessly. I quickly adjusted my settings and captured the perfect image of the couple framed by the floating fabric. Evie, on the other hand, spotted an adorable moment between the ring bearer and flower girl, their tiny hands clasped together under the arch of flowers.
We worked together effortlessly, passing subtle nods and gestures as we moved around the space. Communication is key in moments like these, and with Evie, it’s like we’re always on the same wavelength. As the ceremony transitioned into the celebrations, we swapped lenses to focus on group photos and more dynamic shots. At the reception, Evie pulled out her phone to take some behind-the-scenes videos for our Instagram, capturing the magic from a different perspective.
As the sun began to set and golden hour arrived, we guided the couple to a quiet spot in the garden for their portraits. The light was perfect—soft, warm, and diffused through the trees. Evie and I split up to maximize angles; while I focused on the wide, scenic shots, she took those beautiful close-ups, highlighting the intricate details of the bride’s dress and the groom’s suit.
By the time the night came to an end, we had thousands of images between us. We packed up our gear, exhausted but thrilled with the shots we had captured. The blend of Evie's calm, collected style and my own more direct approach made sure we captured every meaningful glance, every laugh, and every heartfelt moment.
At Kalidron.Photography, it’s not just about the images—it’s about the trust, teamwork, and creative energy that flow between us as photographers. And that day, Evie and I made sure the couple's special moments were beautifully preserved, frame by frame.
